What the Ford government has done with its constant gaslighting and unrelenting assault on democracy and trust is unforgiveable.

It is a well-known fact that Tommy Douglas said “courage my friends, it is not too late to build a better world”. What you may not know is that my late Mom would say “it is not your responsibility to change the world but you are not exempt from trying”.

It is in that spirit I am proud to let you know I am seeking the nomination as the Ontario NDP candidate in riding of Don Valley West to run in the next provincial election in June of 2022 and help defeat the current Ford Conservative government.

Living and working in and around Don Valley West for over three decades I have witnessed the vibrant communities that make up the whole – from Leaside to Thorncliffe to North Toronto.

As Ontario’s child advocate travelling to every corner of the province and back again I have witnessed the struggles of far too many.

The pandemic has laid bare the struggles of marginalized folks and our governments’ response has only served to exacerbate those struggles.

Yet I have witnessed the strength and resiliency of people. I have seen so many Ontarians in their struggle shine in the bright light of their full potential. They have shown me and shown us it can be different.

We have seen callous decisions from our current provincial government: cutting supports for children, youth and families in the name of a dollar. Supports like health care, mental health, housing that were previously starved by the former Liberal government.

What the Ford government has done with its constant gaslighting and unrelenting assault on democracy and trust is unforgiveable. A government with its own TV station. the use of the notwithstanding clause, little to no committee hearings, trained seal applause in question period, fighting the privacy commissioner who has ordered the release of mandate letters. Unforgivable.

We know the promise of what democracy can be in a riding like Don Valley West and down at Queens Park. We will rebuild trust together.  We will work to amplify every voice in every corner of Don Valley West at Queens Park. We will work to unlock democracy.

This is possible.
